L’Arche is a worldwide federation of people, with and without intellectual disabilities, working together for a world where all belong. In our daily life, we share meals, free time, work, prayer and become friends. Through our relationships we can be transformed by one another.
L’Arche community consist usually of houses, where people with learning disabilities live with their assistants, workshops of occupational therapy, forms of assisted work and sometimes a support network for people with disabilities living independently. Family atmosphere in a community allow every one: with and without intellectual disabilities, to feel at home, develop their talents, build relationships of friendship and enjoy their life together.
All members of a L’Arche community participate in taking decisions and contribute, according to their abilities, to a community vision and choose together new project they want undertake and develop.
L’Arche in Poland started in 1981. A t present, there are four communities and one community project as well as a few seed groups.
L'Arche combines a family atmosphere with the professional care and support provided by assistants and specialists. Communities are not only a place of belonging and support for members, families friends and volunteers but they also engage with their local environments.
There are currently over 150 communities in 38 countries on 6 continents. All these communities are part of the International Federation of L'Arche.
